Cheers to you! With good luck!” is a common wedding wish.

Does luck suddenly knock on our door, or is it the result of another process?

What exactly do we mean by “good luck”? How much luck do you need to find your “prince”?

“Luck is nothing but the result of the meeting of hard preparation with the right opportunity,” said Aristotle when asked if he believed in luck.

With this thought in mind, I happened to watch Cinderella’s story for the 100th time, along with my 11-year-old daughter.

What I noticed was that Cinderella was not miserable at all. Despite her difficult life conditions, the bad behavior of her stepsisters and stepmother, she kept smiling at the birds, singing, dancing whenever possible, and staying optimistic about life.

Cinderella didn’t go to the ball to find a husband, as the other girls did. She went for the joy of dancing! Of course, “by chance,” that’s where she met her prince. But it didn’t seem like that was initially her goal. She “got lucky” because she seized the opportunity to enjoy what she loved and through that, someone could see her beautiful soul.

With a different reading, we can see that during her difficult life, she cultivated her inner gifts by enjoying the simple little things in life. She rejoiced in the birds, the simplest wonders of nature. She enjoyed her talents by dancing and singing at every opportunity, even if she was dusting the ashes or cleaning the floor. The exhaustion wore her out, but it didn’t stop her from enjoying some beautiful moments of life with the simplest things.

And then, a miracle! That’s when her Fairy Godmother (the opportunity) appeared! She dressed her, took care of her, and worked on her appearance — on another level, her compatibility with social expectations and norms (the external beauty of a woman) — so she could shine in a social space (the palace ball).

It’s also noteworthy that all the other ladies who went to the palace solely to find a husband left… disappointed. While the one who went for the joy of dancing left, stealing the prince’s heart!

Conclusion:

Enjoy your life, girls! There’s no “wasted” time! There is time for preparation for all the good things that are meant to happen.

Find what excites you. Use your talents and gifts. Delight in the small joys of life. Recognize beauty all around you. And then, let “good luck” do its job and create those “chance” situations, the coincidences, that will bring you to meet your prince! And who knows? Maybe then, the right prince for you will rush to find you!

Just remember, your glass slipper should be yours and the right size!
